We have also detailed below a comprehensive explanation on how to take measurements for your reference.
How to measure
How to take your own measurements

You will need:
a measuring tape (either in inches or in centimeters),
    a full-length mirror,
a few cords of rope or ribbon and,
someone to help you take some of the measurements.

Additionally, make sure that you are wearing something sleeveless and tight so that it is easier for you to identify the points on your body that need to be measured. Before you start taking your measurements, take the ropes or ribbons that you have and tie them around the lines as indicated in the image below. This will help your identify and maintain the chest line, waist line, etc

Chest line: Tie a rope or ribbon around your chest, over the centre of your bust.
Waist line: Tie a rope or ribbon around your waist or the point above your navel where your waist curves the most, along the side of your body
Hip line: Tie a rope or ribbon around that line of your hip that extends out the most. This rope or ribbon must come all the way around your buttocks from behind
Knee line: Tie a rope or ribbon around the centre of your knee
Ankle line: Tie a rope or ribbon around your ankle
Elbow line: Tie a rope or ribbon around your elbow
Wrist line: Tie a rope or ribbon around your wrist

These clear demarcations will allow you to take your measurements faster and a lot more accurately
